Liquid feeding formulas, powders, tablets, or combinations of supplemental vitamins, minerals, or trace elements. They are designed to correct nutritional deficiencies, meet the metabolic needs of patients who have wounds or are at risk for skin breakdown, or to promote weight gain after weight loss. Nutritional therapy is important for wound-healing and provides the foundation for generating new tissue. Always complete a nutritional assessment that includes the visceral protein stores, somatic protein stores, and vitamin and mineral status of the patient.
