Changes to CTP Coding

The 2014 Hospital Outpatient Prospective Payment System (OPPS) Final Rule created changes to the payment, and some coding, for the hospital-based outpatient wound care departments (HOPDs) when qualified health care professionals apply Medicare-covered cellular and/or tissue-based products for wounds (CTPs) and synthetic and biosynthetic dressings in their facilities.

Kathleen Schaum, MS, provide an overview of the 2014 OPPS changes to CTPs and synthetics and biosynthetic dressings, providing an update on the Medicare “packaged” payment rates for these products including:

  • New and revised HCPCS codes for HOPDs
  • “High cost” and “low cost” product application changes
  • Guidelines for accurate claims processing
