Abstract
Chronic ulcers are commonly associated with persistent inflammation and a high bacterial load. The physiological interaction between cells, mediators and extracellular matrix is often disrupted and physiological wound healing is impaired. It is believed that products able to actively modulate certain pathophysiological imbalances - as observed in the wound beds of chronic wounds - may facilitate the healing process.
