Warnings and Precautions:

Do not use on open wounds. Avogel® must not be used when the scar (or wound) is draining, infected, or damaged, even if the skin has scabs or stitches. Avogel® is not intended to be placed in direct contact with bodily fluids. Do not use Avogel® while swimming or bathing. Discontinue use in the event of itching, rash, redness, pain, swelling, or other signs of discomfort. Contact your physician if signs of infection occur (increased pain, swelling, redness, or drainage), a rash or odor develops or any other unexpected symptoms occur. Do not wear the Avogel® for more than 18 hours to avoid skin maceration. Discontinue use of the hydrogel if it becomes dry and inflexible.

How Supplied/Sizing:
4"x4", 6"x48", 8"x8". Single or triple packs.
HCPCS Code (text):

Recommended Use:

Hypertrophic Scars/Keloids

Mode of Use/Application:

Wash and completely dry hands before use. Gently cleanse the scar and surrounding skin with mild soap before application. Ensure that the scar and surrounding skin are clean and dry. Remove the Avogel® from the foil pouch by pulling apart the layers from the top right corners of the foil pouch. Unfold the white protective sheet and let it serve as the work area.

With scissors, trim the Avogel® to the size of the scar, allowing at least 1/2" of the Avogel® to extend beyond the scar. Place the unused portion of the Avogel® back into the foil pouch and store it in the re-sealable bag provided. Store it at room temperature. Peel off the blue plastic backing. Save the plastic backing for storing the Avogel® after use.

Gently press the adhesive side of the Avogel® over the scar so it fits firmly over the contours of the scar. Make sure the edges of the Avogel® extend 1/2" beyond the scar border. Netting, gauze, cloth bandages, stretch or pressure garments may be worn over the Avogel® to keep it in place.

Removal & Change Frequency:

Wear the Avogel® continuously for a minimum of 12 hours each day. Do not exceed a treatment time of 18 hours per day.

Most patients will view an improvement in the appearance of their scar within approximately two weeks of the first application of Avogel®. Symptomatic relief may be experienced sooner. The average treatment period is approximately 8 weeks, depending upon the age and size of the scar. For best results, continue using Avogel® for four weeks after the scar has reached desirable appearance.

Netting, gauze, cloth bandages, stretch or pressure garments may be worn over the Avogel® to keep it in place.
