Exudex® is indicated for the cleaning and removal of debris from wet wounds, ulcers and burns which are exuding either clean or infected plasma. It can also be used for preparation of burned skin surface for grafting, as well as for the dressing and management of minor burns, superficial cuts, lacerations and abrasions; and minor irritations of the skin.
Exudex® should not be applied on dry wounds. Do not apply on wounds located in the abdominal and chest wall cavity, or places in which granules cannot be removed entirely after application.
Do not leave Exudex® in wounds for more than 24 hours, since it can form a dry crust which can be difficult to remove.
Be careful using bandage dressings which may cause skin to soften and breakdown on the margins of the wound from prolonged exposure to moisture, particularly in the case of deep pressure ulcers.
Once the secretions have considerably diminished, replace Exudex® with an alternative treatment.
To avoid cross-contamination of the contents, the bottle should be dedicated for the treatment of a single patient.
During the first days of treatment the wounds may shrink and then appear larger, due to swelling reduction.
Do not place very tight dressings, allow for the expansion of the granules especially in the case of deep pressure ulcers.
Avoid eye contact. Exudex® is for external use only.
During pregnancy and breast feeding, use under the care of a physician or professional health care worker.
The microgranules of Exudex® are absorbed through the base of the wound and are intended to be applied directly to wound or ulcer and should not be mixed with other products.
Keep out of reach of children.
May be harmful if swallowed. Exudex® is minimally toxic. In case of ingestion, rinse mouth with water.
May cause local hypersensitivity and/or softening and breakdown of tissues when not properly implemented.
Store in a dry place at room temperature, no more than 30°C (86°F). Keep bottle tightly closed after each use.

Wash the wound through irrigation or with a swab doused with sterile or saline water. Leave the wound moist as this facilitates the action of Exudex®. Pour Exudex® directly on the wound or ulcer to form a layer having a minimum thickness of 3mm-4mm. If the wound does not have edges and Exudex® may spill when applied, it is recommended to apply petroleum jelly around the wound to form a crater. Apply a sterile gauze or compress on the wound and close all sides with adhesive tape to prevent the granules of Exudex® from slipping off. The pad should not be strained or stretched and should be applied loosely to allow expansion of the granules. Compression bandaging or other bandages may be applied as indicated. However, avoid very tight bandages over the wound. As a general rule, Exudex® must be applied one time a day. If the wound is very exudative (wet), two or more changes daily may be required.
To remove Exudex® wash the wound with sterile or saline water, using a sterile syringe of 20ml or 50ml. If Exudex® granules are adhering, they should be removed by using a swab or sterile gauze soaked in sterile or saline water. May be used for up to seven days.
