Devices placed directly over a mattress. They utilize air, foam, gel, water, wool or other materials and have a base thickness of 2 to 5 inches. Depending on their composition, they may help reduce friction and shear. Indicated for patients with limited mobility, major risk factors or any stage pressure ulcer.
