Therapeutic Moisturizers

Therapeutic moisturizers are cream, gel, liquid, or ointment preparations used to soothe, soften, and moisturize the skin. They should be applied after cleansing with a gentle agent and when the skin is dry. Ingredients vary based on manufacturers' formulation but generally contain water, humectants, emollients, and vitamins. May also include an antimicrobial ingredient. Therapeutic moisturizers are often the second step in the process of cleansing, moisturizing, and protecting the genital and rectal areas for the prevention of skin breakdown.

Therapeutic moisturizers are contraindicated for use on deep or puncture wounds.
