Benefits

• Soft, sterile, highly absorbent, and conformable
• Nonwoven wound dressing made of 100% carboxymethyl cellulose (CMC)
• As wound exudates are absorbed, the CMC forms a soft gel which helps the dressing maintain a moist environment
• Supports the wound healing process
• Aids in the removal of nonviable material from the wound, without damaging newly formed tissue

Indications

3M™ Kerracel™ Gelling Fiber Dressing is suitable for use on moderate exuding wounds (chronic or acute) such as: leg ulcers, pressure ulcers, diabetic foot ulcers, surgical wounds, donor sites, cavity wounds, superficial and partial-thickness burns, trauma wounds, oncology wounds, or to control minor bleeding in superficial wounds.
3M™ Kerracel™ Gelling Fiber Dressing is suitable for use under compression bandaging.

Mode of Use/Application

Cleanse the wound in accordance with local protocols. Select an appropriate dressing size, so the dressing overlaps the wound margin by approximately 1cm/0.4". Open the pack and lay the sterile dressing onto the wound. Either side of the sterile dressing may be used. Apply the dressing to the wound and cover with an appropriate secondary dressing. When using the ribbon in cavity wounds, leave at least 2.5cm/1" outside the wound for ease of removal. Only fill cavity wounds to 80%, as the dressing will expand to fill the space on contact with exudate.

Partial Thickness Burns

Cleanse the wound in accordance with local procedures. Select an appropriate dressing size, so the dressing overlaps the wound margin by approximately 5cm /2" asthe dressing will shrink in size as it absorbs the excess exudate. Open the pack and lay the sterile dressing onto the wound. Either side of the sterile dressing may be used. Apply the dressing to the wound and cover with an appropriate secondary dressing.

Removal & Change Frequency

Check the dressing at regular intervals and change according to the clinical condition of the wound. If the condition of the wound deteriorates, discontinue use and consult your health care professional. 3M™ Kerracel™ Gelling Fiber Dressing can be left in place for up to seven days. However, this depends upon the condition of the wound and the skin in the periwound area. At dressing change, if 3M™ Kerracel™ Gelling Fiber Dressing does not come away from the wound easily, apply saline to the dressing and gently remove.
