Laura Swoboda , DNP, APNP, FNP-C, FNP-BC, CWOCN-AP, WOCNF:
Hi, I'm Dr. Laura Swoboda. I'm a translational scientist, a family nurse practitioner, and a wound and vascular specialist in Milwaukee, Wisconsin.
So, for my poster on CAMP standardization and telehealth, we actually partnered with a DME, Skilled DME Company, Clara Care, to look at the ability to deliver RN-initiated assessments in the home, and then couple that with provider overview of these patients and identify sort of the sweet spot of when to apply a CAMP, a cellular, acellular matrix-like product in that setting.
So, it's a very controversial area right now. You can go on both sides of the coin on that argument, but ultimately for the patient's sake, the wound bed needs to be prepared properly, and the patient would only benefit from that product if they had enough blood flow to heal the wound. So, looking at creating a checklist that can be essentially pre-approved so the RN can facilitate via telehealth, getting this checklist for CAMPs optimization verified, in concert with providing comorbid disease management and making sure that the DME has been taken care of and the wound, you know, is being treated with advanced dressings for the appropriate amount of time to see if CAMPs are indicated, and then finding a time when the provider needs to make that visit to the home to actually apply the product.
So, this also fits into the nationwide shortage of providers, and we use telehealth to optimize when the providers can go see patients. Therefore, they're not going for a visit where they find something unforeseen and aren't able to apply the CAMP. And this way, their time is really used in a way where it will best benefit the most amount of people.
