Compression stockings are elastic hosiery garments applied to a lower limb to achieve graduated compression. They are used for management of conditions such as venous hypertension, lymphedema, and venous ulcers to reduce edema and aid the return of venous blood to the heart. The physician order should include specification of level of compression and anatomic area(s) to be treated. Always apply according to the manufacturer’s recommendations.

Static compression stockings are indicated for the management of venous hypertension, lymphedema and venous ulcers to reduce edema and aid return of venous blood to the heart.
Static compression stockings are contraindicated for arterial insufficiency, intermittent claudication, ischemia, uncontrolled congestive heart failure, acute dermatitis, weeping dermatosis, and cutaneous sepsis.
