CovaWound™ Alginate (Alginate Dressing)

CovaWound™ Alginate (Alginate Dressing) is a primary wound dressing made from the calcium salt of alginic acid rich in mannuronic acid. Forms a soft, hydrophilic, gas-permeable gel when in contact with exudate, conforming to the contours of the wound to provide a micro-environment that facilitates wound healing. Flat non-woven pad or rope format.

Indications

CovaWound™ Alginate dressing may be applied to moderately to heavily exuding wounds like partial-thickness burns; donor sites; leg, pressure, arterial, diabetic, and venous stasis ulcers; cavity wounds; post-surgical incisions; trauma wounds, and most other granulating wounds.

Contraindications

Dressing should not be used on dry or lightly exuding wounds or on patients with sensitivity to calcium alginate or with other known allergic skin conditions.

Warnings and Precautions

Dressing may be used on wounds that show signs of infection or contamination provided dressings are changed daily. If infection is present, consult a physician.

Mode of Use/Application

Before applying dressing, the wound area should be thoroughly cleansed with wound cleanser or normal saline. If necessary, the wound should be debrided. Dressing may be trimmed to fit the wound size. Apply dressing to wound surface; deep wounds should be loosely packed with CovaWound™ Alginate rope. Cover the dressing with an appropriate secondary dressing and secure.

Removal & Change Frequency

CovaWound™ Alginate dressing may be left in place for up to 7 days depending on the patient, the condition of the wound and surrounding skin, or as indicated by accepted clinical practice. The cumulative use of CovaWound™ Alginate dressing should not exceed 30 days.

Additional Recommended Dressings

May be used as a secondary dressing to ColActive® Plus (Collagen Matrix Dressing) or ColActive® Plus Ag (Collagen Matrix Dressing with Silver).
