CovaWound™ Alginate is a primary wound dressing made from the calcium salt of alginic acid rich in mannuronic acid. Forms a soft, hydrophilic, gas permeable gel when in contact with exudate, conforming to the contours of the wound to provide a micro-environment that facilitates wound healing. Flat non-woven pad or rope format.
• Dressing conforms to the contours of the wound and provides a micro-environment that facilitates wound healing
CovaWound™ Alginate dressing may be applied to moderate to heavily exuding wounds like partial-thickness burns; donor sites; leg, pressure, arterial, diabetic and venous stasis ulcers; cavity wounds; post-surgical incisions; trauma wounds; and most other granulating wounds.
Dressing should not be used on dry or lightly exuding wounds or on patients with sensitivity to calcium alginate or with other known allergic skin conditions.
Dressing may be used on wounds that show signs of infection or contamination provided dressings are changed daily. If infection is present, consult a physician.

Moderate/Highly Exudating Wounds
Before applying dressing, the wound area should be thoroughly cleansed with wound cleanser or normal saline. If necessary, the wound should be debrided. Dressing may be trimmed to fit the wound size. Apply dressing to wound surface; deep wounds should be loosely packed with CovaWound™ Alginate rope. Cover the dressing with an appropriate secondary dressing and secure.
CovaWound™ Alginate dressing may be left in place for up to seven days depending on the patient, the condition of the wound and surrounding skin, or as indicated by accepted clinical practice. The accumulative use of CovaWound™ Alginate dressing should not exceed 30 days.
May be used as a secondary dressing to ColActive® Plus (Collagen Matrix Dressing) or ColActive® Plus Ag (Collagen Matrix Dressing with Silver).
