• Soft, comfortable wound dressings with high mannuronic acid content
• Silver-impregnated calcium alginate fibers form a gel on contact with wound exudate or blood, which creates a moist wound healing environment for optimal wound healing
• Silver ions protect the dressing from a range of microorganisms
• Highly absorptive
• Available in rope format
CovaWound™ Alginate Ag dressings can be used for the management of wounds which are moderate and heavily exuding; superficial or deep wounds such as pressure ulcers, arterial ulcers, venous lower leg ulcers, diabetic ulcers and post-operative wounds.
Do not use on patients undergoing Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI) examination or on patients with known sensitivity to silver or any other components. Contact with electrodes or conductive gels during electronic measurements (e.g., EEG or ECG) should be avoided.
Should be applied under medical supervision for a maximum continuous duration of four weeks. Wounds should be reviewed and appropriately managed, as indicated, under the direction of a medical practitioner. No data is available to support compatibility with topical medicinal preparations.

Before applying the dressing, the wound bed should be cleansed carefully using existing clinical protocols. The skin surrounding the wound should be clean and dry. Choose an appropriate size to match the wound dressing. If necessary, fold or cut to adjust to wound size. For deep wounds, use the rope dressing format. Pack lightly. Apply dressing on the moist wound. For wounds with light exudation, moisten the dressing with physiological saline solution (0.9%). Secure the dressing with a suitable secondary dressing.
CovaWound™ Alginate Ag should be changed at intervals set by physician in charge, according to the stage of wound healing and depending upon the level of exudate. Remove the secondary dressing using existing clinical protocols. Remove any non-gelled CovaWound™ Alginate Ag dressing and rinse off any gel residue that is left in the wound with physiological saline solution (0.9%) before wound assessment and applying the new dressing.
May be used as a secondary dressing to ColActive® Plus (Collagen Matrix Dressing) or ColActive® Plus Ag (Collagen Matrix Dressing with Silver).
