Biatain® Alginate

Biatain® Alginate is a highly-absorbent alginate dressing for moderately to heavily exuding wounds. Consists of calcium alginate and carboxymethylcellulose (CMC) and converts to a soft, cohesive gel upon contact with exudate.

Indications

Biatain® Alginate wound dressing is indicated for the following moderate to heavily exuding chronic and acute wounds; pressure injuries, venous and arterial leg ulcers, diabetic ulcers, cavity wounds, lacerations, skin abrasions, graft and donor sites, post-operative surgical wounds, as well as first- and second-degree burns.

Contraindications

Do not use on patients with a known sensitivity towards alginates or carboxymethyl cellulose (CMC). Not intended to control heavy bleeding.

Warnings and Precautions

Do not re-use in whole or in part, as it may compromise sterility and/or the performance of the dressing.
Do not use on dry or lightly exuding wounds.
For use under guidance of a health care professional.
Must not be ingested and must be kept away from children and animals.

Can remain in place up to 7 days. Dressing change frequency will depend on wound condition and the level of exudate.
